Grade 12 Geography Lessons

Video Description
Lesson 1: Global Weather Patterns
In this lesson we focus on primary, secondary and tertiary circulation. We also try to understand how temperature affects air pressure and how these factors cause movement of air.
Lesson 2: Mid-latitude & Tropical Cyclones
In this lesson we take a look at Mid-latitude Cyclones and discuss the stages of development as well as associated conditions. We also take a look at the stages of development and phenomena associated with Tropical Cyclones.
Lesson 3: Factors that Influence Weather & Climate
In this lesson we take a look at factors that determine the weather of South Africa as well as identification of the three anticyclones.
Lesson 4: Mapwork Calculations
In this lesson on Mapwork we focus on the following: Map scale, calculating distance, calculating area, finding places by means of bearings, magnetic declination, magnetic bearing, calculating speed, distance and time, how to construct a cross section, calculating gradient, vertical exaggeration, intervisibility, calculating the scale of vertical aerial photographs as well as drainage density.
Lesson 5: River Systems
In this lesson on River Systems we take a look at where the water in rivers comes from, factors that influence run-off, infiltration and the rate of erosion as well as drainage basins.
Lesson 6: Fluvial Landforms
In this lesson we take a look at fluvial landforms, the management of river catchment areas as well as slope elements.

In this lesson on Structural Landforms we focus on the topography of horizontal strata, landforms associated with inclined rock strata as well as landforms associated with igneous intrusions.
Lesson 8: Geographic Information Systems
In this lesson we take a close look at GIS and map projects as well as take a look at x-ample questions and x-ercises.
Lesson 9: Map Interpretation Climate / Geomorphology
In this lesson on Map Interpretation we attempt to integrate theory and mapwork as well as look specifically at how climate, weather and fluvial processes can be tested in mapwork.
Lesson 10: Processes & Spatial Patterns
In this lesson on Processes and Spatial Patterns we focus on the following: Aspects of settlement, site and situation, dispersed and nucleated settlements, wet-point settlements, dry-point settlements, function of settlement, characteristics of settlements as well as the relationship between population and dwelling.
